چکیده

The aim of this paper is to describe the data-fusion acquired from a CCD camera and a thermal imager. The fusion is realized by means of spatial data from a TOF camera to ensure ”natural” representation of a robot’s environment; thus, the thermal and CCD camera data are comprised in one stereo image presented to a binocular, head-mounted display. The data acquisition is performed using a sensor head, which is placed on an Orpheus-X3 robot; both the head and the robot were developed by our working group. The head contains five matrix sensors: a pair of CCD cameras, a pair of thermal imagers, and one TOF camera. After the geometrical calibration of each sensor, the positions of the sensors in 6DOFs are computed. The corresponding data from the CCD camera and the thermal imager are subsequently determined via homogeneous and perspective transformations. The result consists in an image containing aligned data from the CCD camera and the thermal imager for each eye. TOF camera calibration and its impact to the precision of fusion is described. Thermal imager color misbalance caused by mutual temperature shift is described and solution is shown.

Are Autonomous Mobile Robots Able to Take Over Construction? A Review

Although construction has been known as a highly complex application field for autonomous robotic systems, recent advances in this field offer great hope for using robotic capabilities to develop automated construction. Today, space research agencies seek to build infrastructures without human intervention, and construction companies look to robots with the potential to improve construction qua...

Measuring the Quality of Interaction in Mobile Robotic Telepresence: A Pilot's Perspective

This article presents a method for measuring the quality of interaction in social mobile robotic telepresence. The methodology is in part based on Adam Kendon’s theory of F-formations. The theory is based on observations of how bodies naturally orient themselves during interaction between people in real life settings. In addition, two presence questionnaires (Temple Presence Inventory and Netwo...

Incremental texture mapping for autonomous driving

Autonomous vehicles have a large number of on-board sensors, not only for providing coverage all around the vehicle, but also to ensure multi-modality in the observation of the scene. Because of this, it is not trivial to come up with a single, unique representation that feeds from the data given by all these sensors. We propose an algorithm which is capable of mapping texture collected from vi...

An Integrated Multi-sensory System for Photo-realistic 3d Scene Reconstruction

In this paper, we describe an integrated approach to the construction of textured 3D scene models from laser range data and visual images. This approach has been realised in a collection of algorithms and sensors, within a prototype device for 3D reconstruction known as the AEST (Autonomous Environmental Sensor for Telepresence) -an autonomous mobile platform carrying a scanning laser range fin...

New Adaptive UKF Algorithm to Improve the Accuracy of SLAM

SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is a fundamental problem when an autonomous mobile robot explores an unknown environment by constructing/updating the environment map and localizing itself in this built map. The all-important problem of SLAM is revisited in this paper and a solution based on Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filter (AUKF) is presented. We will explain the detailed algorithm...
